Works when
- The business has an online booking system or answers email.
- You know the new time, or a range that works.
- You want the new confirmation checked for you.
Does not work when
- The business only takes changes by phone.
- Changing would forfeit a deposit you have not agreed to lose.
- The booking is shared with people who have not agreed to the new time.

The source case
On X, @sytaylor reports telling Instinct: “You know that thing we did? Move it back 90 minutes.” By their account it remembered the booking and the pub's website, changed the reservation and sent the confirmation. @squirtlevc reports the opposite kind of result: an agent booked a slot at the right time but in a different time zone, which they say wasted tons of time and some money. @Lpevs says Instinct fixed up some scheduling problems they had, without detail. None of the posts names fees, terms or booking systems. Checked on 2026-09-24. These are individual reports, not evidence of what any business will allow.

- New date and time, with time zone
- Any times you cannot do
Connected

How to try it
Editorial, not from the source
- Say which booking, and give the new time with its time zone or the city it applies in.
- Ask for the existing booking to be found and read back to you: place, date, time and reference.
- Check the new slot is free, and what changing costs, before the old one is given up.
- Approve the change, and have it made through the business's own booking system or contact route.
- Get the new confirmation and check the date, time and time zone on it.
Vague requests need a read-back
The first report behind this page shows what a remembered booking makes possible. @sytaylor says they told Instinct, “You know that thing we did? Move it back 90 minutes,” and it remembered the booking and the pub's website, changed the reservation and sent the confirmation. The same shortcut is also the risk. A request like that relies on the agent picking the right booking, and if you have two things on the same evening, it may not. Ask for the booking to be read back before any change: the place, the date, the current time and the reference. It takes a few seconds and catches a wrong match before it becomes a cancelled table or a missed appointment. After that, a short instruction is fine.
State the time zone every time
A second report shows how a booking can go wrong with no error on the screen. @squirtlevc says an agent booked a slot at the right time but in a different time zone, which cost them time and some money, and asks for bookings to match their time zone or at least ask for it. The lesson carries straight over to changing a booking. When you give a new time, give its zone or the city it applies in, especially when you are travelling or the booking is somewhere else. Ask for the confirmed time to be read back in the place's local time, and in yours if they differ. A changed booking at the wrong hour is worse than no change, because the original slot has already gone.
Keep the old slot until the new one is confirmed
Changing a booking often means giving something up. Some businesses let you move freely, some charge a fee, and some treat a change as a cancellation followed by a new booking, which can lose a deposit or a hard-to-get time. Check the terms and the new slot's availability before the old one is released, and approve the change yourself. Once it is done, get the new confirmation and check it against what you asked for: date, time, zone, party size or service. A third user, @Lpevs, says Instinct fixed up some scheduling problems, and gives no more detail. Together these posts suggest the change can be handed over. They do not show that any given business will allow it.

Limits and confirmation points
- Three short reports. Only one describes a completed change, and none shows fees or terms.
- One report describes a booking made in the wrong time zone, at a cost. Times given without a zone are a real risk when you or the booking are away from home.
- Some businesses charge to change a booking, or treat a change as a cancellation and a new booking. Check before approving.
- A vague request can match the wrong booking. Have it read back before anything changes.
Editorial, not from the source
- Before changing: the existing booking read back and confirmed.
- Before approving: new slot, time zone and any fee checked.
- After: the new confirmation matches what you asked for.
Editorial, not from the source
- The booking landed in the wrong time zone
- Give a zone or city with every time, and ask for the confirmed time to be read back in local time. One user reports losing time and money this way.
- A short request matches more than one booking
- Ask for the candidates to be listed and choose one before anything changes.
- The new slot is not available
- Ask for the nearest options either side, and keep the original booking until you choose.
Common questions
Can an agent reschedule a booking for me?
One user reports that Instinct moved a pub reservation back 90 minutes from a one-line request and sent the confirmation. This directory has not reproduced it.
What can go wrong?
Another user reports a booking made at the right time in the wrong time zone, costing time and money. A vague request can also change the wrong booking.
Will it pay a change fee?
Not without asking, on this approach. Check the business's terms and approve any fee yourself.
Can it move a doctor's appointment?
The same read-back and confirm steps apply. For trying to get an earlier appointment, see the separate page. Anything about your care stays with the clinic.
What if the business only takes changes by phone?
Then the change needs a call. This page covers changes made through a business's own online system or by email.
