Works when

  • You have a routine appointment booked months away and would take an earlier one.
  • Your calendar is up to date and you can answer a call from the office.
  • You want to keep the booking you have as a fallback.

Does not work when

  • Your symptoms are getting worse; call the practice or seek urgent care rather than waiting for a slot.
  • The visit has to be timed after a test or treatment.
  • You want the existing booking cancelled before anything new is secured.

The source case

On X, @jbahrdestefano reports that Instinct got a physical moved up to November 2, almost three full months earlier. By their account they told it to go figure it out, and then the doctor's office called them to offer some earlier slots that were available. The post does not say what the agent did to prompt that call, whether it was a waitlist, a request to the office or something else. In a separate post, @Lpevs says Instinct booked several doctor's appointments and fixed some scheduling problems, without details. Both were checked on 2026-09-24. They are individual reports, not evidence that the reader's practice has or will release earlier slots.

How to try it

Editorial, not from the source

  1. Give the current booking: practice, provider, visit type, date and time.
  2. Set the earliest and latest dates you would accept and the hours you can make.
  3. Have the agent ask the office for earlier openings or a place on its cancellation list, using the channel the office prefers.
  4. Keep your phone on: in the reported case the office called the patient to offer the earlier slots.
  5. Accept a new slot yourself, and cancel the old one only after the new one is confirmed.

What the report does and does not show

The post behind this page is short and specific about the result. @jbahrdestefano says a physical was moved up to November 2, almost three full months earlier, after they told Instinct to go figure it out, and that the doctor's office then called to offer some earlier slots. What it does not show is the method. It could have been a request to the office, a place on a cancellation list or something else, and the post does not say. A second post, from @Lpevs, reports several doctor's appointments booked and some scheduling problems fixed, again without detail. So this page offers a sensible way to ask, not a technique that is known to work, and it assumes the most likely outcome of any single request is that nothing earlier exists yet.

Ask the office the way it wants to be asked

Practices differ in how they release earlier slots. Some keep a cancellation list and call people on it, some post openings in a patient portal, and some only move appointments when a patient calls. Give the agent your current booking, the earliest and latest dates you would accept, and the hours you can actually make, and have it find out which route the office uses. If the answer is a call, as in the reported case, make sure the phone number on file is the one you answer. If a visit has to follow a test or be a set time after a previous one, check with the office before moving it; an earlier appointment is not better if it arrives before the results it depends on.

Never give up the slot you have

The simplest way to lose ground is to cancel the existing booking in the hope of something sooner. Keep it until the office has confirmed the new appointment in writing or in its portal, and only then cancel the later one so it goes back to someone else. Accepting a slot should stay with you: the agent can check it against your calendar and tell you about clashes, but a different provider, a different location or a different visit type is a choice to make knowingly. This page is about scheduling. If waiting feels unsafe because symptoms are changing, the right move is to call the practice or seek urgent care, not to wait for a cancellation.

Limits and confirmation points

  • Two attributed reports. Neither describes what the agent actually did, so there is no method here that is known to work.
  • Whether earlier slots exist depends on the practice, not on persistence. A request can simply end with no opening.
  • Some visits have to be a set time apart or follow a test. Check with the office before moving one.
  • This page covers scheduling only. Anything about symptoms or urgency is for your clinician.

Editorial, not from the source

  • Before it starts: confirm the current booking and your acceptable window.
  • When a slot is offered: you accept or decline.
  • Before the old booking is cancelled: the new one is confirmed.

The office says there is nothing earlier
Ask whether it keeps a cancellation list and how it contacts people on it, and make sure your phone number is the one on file.
An earlier slot is with a different provider
That is your call. Check it is the same visit type and that the provider takes your insurance before accepting.
Two bookings are now live
Cancel the later one yourself once the earlier one is confirmed, so the slot goes back to someone else.

Common questions

Can Instinct get me an earlier appointment?

One user reports that it got a physical moved up by almost three months, after which the office called to offer earlier slots. The post does not say what the agent did, and this directory has not reproduced it.

Will it cancel my current appointment?

Not on this page. Keep the existing booking until the new one is confirmed, then cancel the later one yourself or approve its cancellation.

Why did the office call instead of the agent booking?

The post does not explain. Many practices offer cancellation slots by phone, so keep the number on file current and answer unknown calls for a while.

What if the earlier slot is with another doctor?

That is your decision. Check it is the same visit type and that the new provider takes your insurance before accepting.

Is this for urgent problems?

No. If symptoms are getting worse, call the practice, your plan's nurse line or seek urgent care.
