Works when
- The restaurant and items are specific enough to order without back-and-forth.
- Your delivery app account and payment method are already set up.
- You will check the total before it is charged.
Does not work when
- You haven't decided what you want yet and need recommendations first.
- The restaurant requires a phone call rather than app ordering.
- You want to split payment across multiple methods or people.

The source case
On X, @qrsyth says Instinct ordered food for them through the delivery app Hubtel, in a single short post with an attached image. No restaurant, order contents, price or delivery outcome is described, and nothing here has been run by this directory.

- The delivery app account, such as Hubtel
How to try it
Editorial, not from the source
- Name the app, such as Hubtel, the restaurant, and exactly what you want ordered, including sizes or substitutions.
- Give it the delivery address and which saved payment method to use, rather than leaving either to be guessed.
- Ask for the total, including delivery fee and tip, to be read back before the order is placed.
- Have the confirmation and estimated arrival time sent back to you once the order goes through.
Name the order, not just the restaurant
An agent placing a delivery order is only as accurate as the order it was given. Naming the restaurant is the easy part; the part that goes wrong is everything underneath it, sizes, spice levels, removed ingredients, and which of three similarly named items you actually meant. Say exactly what you want in the same terms the app's menu uses where you can, since a paraphrase can land on the wrong line item. If you have a usual order, state it in full rather than referring to 'the usual,' because an agent reading a menu fresh does not have your ordering history unless you give it. The more specific the order, the less the agent has to guess, and guessing is where a wrong size or a missed substitution request comes from, especially on a menu with many near-identical options.
Lock the address and payment method before it orders
Delivery apps default to whatever address and card are saved, and those defaults are not always the ones you want for a given order, especially if you use the app from more than one location or have more than one saved card. State the delivery address explicitly rather than assuming the saved default is current, and name which payment method should be used. This matters more than it sounds: a food order sent to the wrong address is difficult to recall once a restaurant starts preparing it, and a charge on the wrong card is an annoyance you would rather avoid than dispute afterward. Treat the address and payment method as part of the order itself, not as settings that can safely be left to default.
Read the total before it's charged
A delivery order's sticker price and its total are rarely the same number once delivery fees, service fees and a tip are added, and those extras vary by app, by distance and by time of day. Ask for the full total, broken into subtotal, fees and tip, to be read back before the order is confirmed, rather than approving a round number that hides how it got there. If the total looks high relative to the order, that is worth a second look rather than an assumption that delivery is simply expensive today. Once the order is placed, get the confirmation and the estimated arrival time back, so you know the task is actually done rather than still pending somewhere in the app.

Limits and confirmation points
- The source is a single short post naming the app and the action; no order contents, total, or delivery outcome are described.
- Delivery apps change menus, prices and availability by the minute; a quoted price in chat is only as good as the moment it was read.
- Delivery apps often require account login and saved payment details, which is access you are choosing to extend, not something free of risk.
- An order placed with the wrong address, substitution, or quantity is hard to undo once a restaurant starts preparing it.
Editorial, not from the source
- Before it starts: confirm app, restaurant, exact items and delivery address.
- Before it pays: read back the total including fees and tip.
- After it's placed: check the confirmation and estimated arrival against what you expected.
Editorial, not from the source
- An item is out of stock at the restaurant
- Ask for a specific fallback (a named substitute) rather than letting a substitution be picked for you silently.
- The delivery address is wrong
- Confirm the address explicitly before the order is placed; a mid-delivery address change is often not possible.
- The total is higher than expected
- Ask for a fee and tip breakdown; delivery apps often add service fees that are easy to miss when only the subtotal is read back.
Common questions
Can it order from a restaurant that doesn't use the app?
No. The order has to go through an app the restaurant is listed on, such as Hubtel; a restaurant that is phone-only or walk-in only is outside what this covers.
Will it pick a substitute if something is out of stock?
Only if you tell it to and say what the substitute should be. Left unstated, a substitution is a guess, and the one it picks for you may not be the one you'd have chosen.
Does it know my usual order?
No, unless you state it. An agent reading the app fresh has no memory of your past orders unless you give that information explicitly.
How is the total confirmed before I'm charged?
Ask for the subtotal, delivery fee, service fee and tip read back as a breakdown before the order is placed, not just a single rounded total.
What happens if the delivery address is wrong?
Correct it before the order is placed. Once a restaurant starts preparing a delivery order, changing the address is often not possible through the app.
